73 HOUSES WILL BE DEMOLISHED IN BAINA

VASCO: As many as 73 houses along the Baina stretch to Desterro will be demolished on June 30, as part of efforts to expedite work on the incomplete NH17B.  Owners of the 73 structures have received keys of tenements for the Project Affected People (PAP) from Goa State Rehabilitation Board (GSRB).
In a high-level meeting called by South Goa Collector Sandip Jacques on Monday evening, an action plan was drawn to raze down 126 structures from Baina shore to Desterro as part of port connectivity project, which has been delayed for nearly three decades by the State government.
However, the urgency is to meet the June 30 deadline set by the High Court, asking the State government to free the acquired land from NH-17B from all encroachments and hand it over to NHAI.
The GSRB has built 256 units for PAP at Headland Sada, besides 40 flats for fishermen at Joshi Bhat.
CORRIGENDUM
In our edition dated June 28 we inadvertently carried a news item saying 126 Khariwado structures to face the axe on June 30. In fact, the houses to be razed are along the Baina-Desterro stretch. We regret the error and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to the villagers of Khariwado.
