COUPLE FROM PUNE ROBBED AT CALANGUTE

Robberies and thefts seem to be on the rise in the tiny touristic State of Goa. Almost every other day there is news of theft specially along the beaches. Quite a lot goes unreported too. A couple from Pune was robbed at Calangute on Wednesday night while on their way back to the guest house where they are staying.

According to Calangute police, the couple had gone out and was returning to the guest house at Gaurawaddo, late in the evening, when two unknown persons stopped and threatened them with a gun like object. They took from them two mobiles, cash worth ` 15,000 and the two-wheeler (GA 04 T 3572) that they had hired and fled from the scene. A police complaint was later registered.
Incidentally, this is the second incident of the same nature to take place at Calangute within a week, with the culprits of the last incident still being at large. It is also learnt that incidents of such nature are now on the rise in Calangute and people feel that there should be some mechanism in place to deal with this racket before the situation worsens.
The Calangute police are investigating the case. Tourists in Goa have to be careful with their valuables and personal belongings. There is also a menace of the lamanis and other unsocial elements operating along the beach lines. Extra police patrolling is a necessity along the beach line to avoid similar incidents said a resident of Calangute.

  1. This day and age tourists destinations all over the world have a very tight security. Of course there are places were drugs are widely available such as Jamaica, But Goa being the smallest destination one would have thought it was safe. Then again Drugs too are widely available. Yesterday in Margao the intelligent police solved a kidnapping case. Here we have two identical cases and not a single arrest. How can one be safe? I am sure Goa police have the intelligence and Know who these criminals are.

  2. diogofichardo... No doubt Goa police are intelligent, but when they are ORDERED by the corrupt ministers or polilticians to look the other way when a certain crime occurs, their intelligence goes down in their arse.
