KAMAT SEEKS BLOCKING OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES

PANJIM: Creation of fake profiles on Facebook has become a cause of worry in the state; a fake account in the name of Education Minister, Mr Atanasio Monserrate had already created a flutter some time back, and now it was the turn of the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, whose account was flashed on the social networking site by an imposter.
The Director of Intelligent Quotient Security System, Pune, Dr Herald D’Costa, said such incidents of bogus Facebook accounts and e-mails have increased.
Dr D’Costa said that the Chief Minister, after learning about his fake account, had asked him to write a letter to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology asking it to block the social networking websites like Orkut, Facebook and others.
The draft stated that social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook, Hi 5 etc, have been adversely affecting the lives of people in Goa with unscrupulous elements using these sites to post defamatory, vulgar and obscene materials to blackmail, defame, cause mayhem among the people and destroy the social fabric of a peaceful society like Goa.
"Innocent people fall victim to emails or "add friend" requests when it seems those email IDs belong to their friends or people known to them. They then have a rude awakening when they find out that they are now part of ‘friend list’ of such obscene groups," the draft stated
The fallout of such sites and the misuse by unscrupulous elements is defamation to peoples’ characters, marital break ups, disharmony among families and even suicides, the letter stated urging authorities to block/ ban such sites. (NT)

  1. These sites adversely affect the lives of only the Goans. While the rest of the world appreciate the free service. I've checked it out and it says digu is a good cm. What's wrong with that? And digubab, there is a report abuse button on the page, if you dont like what you see. Try clicking it and see what happens. BURN THE HOUSE TO KILL A MOUSE??????

  2. I wonder how Dr. Costa’s awkward remarks that networking website is destroying the social fabric of Goa. Yes may be to some extend with the younger generation but more than that these present corrupt leaders are damaging and demolishing the beautiful Goa by dismantling the precious blocks/foundation stones built by our ancestors and forefathers one by one thereby sending shivering signals to our spins and minds. I think Dr. Costa is one of the crumbs bread eater of the chor CM.

  4. Why all this fuss of asking to block the sites when they themselves get those sites done and put up so that others my think they are innocent. This is their ploy to fool people. Do not listen to them. No one should block the sites.

  5. These uneducated politicians think that they can fool the people all the time. All these sites are indeed created by them just as Shirodkar said and put up. They need some diversion now from the police drug nexus so they are trying these games. Go to south, Churchill needs Valanka on the scene so he very foolishly has created the scene for himself, Monserrate needs clin chit for his Rapist son Rohit and above all Kamat wants to wash of his hands so he too indulged into this monkey mischief without thinking they would be read through.

Mr Kamat is unlikely to succeed with his request. He is wasting more of his wasted time. There are millions of users in India that use Networking sites.Blocking these sites will cause a big stir.A lot of Facebook & other Networking sites are programmed in India.India is a democracy. There are far worse obscene sites in India. What about the Escort and Massage agencies in Goa.The Goa MLA`s are all obscene. They are into Drugs,Gambling, Prostitution, raping, laundering, plundering etc..That to me is obscene. If Mr Kamat & some of his ministers do not like the criticism against them, they must take it as a sign that the people they govern are not happy. They are like Societys cancer.Better still, they can all immigrate to a country where Network sites are banned or heavily monitored.North Korea would be one.I am sure a lot of Goans would be happy with that.Perhaps Kamat is "barking" up the wrong tree.If these sites are shut down...there will always be another that will "pop -up" or surface. He should learn that if it is too hot in the Kitchen...he should get out.He should first get his house & obscene Ministers in order. The children & relatives of Churchill,Monseratte ,Viola & others .. all have Facebook /Youtube /Bebo/Orkut/Linkedin. accounts.Lets see how they & their "Daddies" react.Truthfully, most of the current MLA`s cannot read or write. They are semi-literates.They must be interepreting Facebook as a "book of peoples faces"?!!
