BEGIN RIVER PRINCES REMOVAL WORK WITHIN TWO MONTHS: HC

PANJIM The Division Bench of the High Court of Bombay at Goa constituting of Mr Justice D G Karnik and Mr Justice F M Reis directed the state to commence the removal work of River Princess within two months.
The direction was given when the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the River Princess Hatao Manch complaining about the environmental hazards caused by the stranded vessel came up for hearing.
The petitioner objected to the consideration of the proposal of Salgaocar Mining Industries Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) by the state to remove the ship. It was contended by the advocate for the petitioner, Mr Nigel Costa Frias that as SMIPL is responsible for the disaster the job of damage control should not be assigned to them. Mr Costa Frias, moreover, contended that the presence of the ship off Candolim coastline has caused rapid erosion. Furthermore, it was contended by the advocate for the petitioners that it is the duty of the government to take immediate steps for removing the ship to prevent permanent damage to the fragile ecosystem of the area.
Earlier, SMIPL had filed an independent petition which was then tagged to the petition filed by the Manch. Through the petition, SMIPL had sought that the work for the removal of the stranded vessel should be allotted to them as they were ready to carry out the work free of cost.
In response to the contentions of the advocate of the petitioner, the Advocate General Mr Subodh Kantak, appearing on behalf of the state, said that the government has always maintained its stand that the ship should be removed immediately. Mr Kantak further assured the Court that the state would take all necessary steps for the purpose without any delay.
After hearing the parties the Court was inclined to direct the government to take immediate steps within two months to commence the removal work of the stranded vessel. While issuing the direction and considering the continuous damage caused to the environment by the stranded vessel the Court observed that the same must be removed as expeditiously as possible. The Court further directed that in any case, the work must be completed before the next monsoons. While issuing the directions the Court made it clear that the measures taken by the government to prevent further erosion should continue until the removal of the ship.

  2. Millions of words have been used in favour or removing this princess of death over the last ten years. Yet nothing has happened because, may be the hafta is not enough. May be in another ten or twenty years time it will be rusty enough, to be broken with a two pound hammer.

  3. The story goes back to 10 years and yet is the same. In the last 10 years many political Alibabas promised so many things. I have written it umpteen times in the past and I do write it again that if the Gua Government cannot remove one small half sunken barge, what else will they remove? Poverty from Goa as they claim? Never. All Challis Chors of Goa are good for looting Goa and nothing else. Of all the CM's this Paigambar of Margao is the worst. He is totally good for nothing and is a friend of the looters. He has proved to be totally ineffecient and unproductive. God save Goa from these chors and please, please, spread the word to all that they should not vote back any of these chors or their family members. the progress of Goa is hijacked by these 40 Alibabas.

  4. This is an embarassment to all Goans.Wake Up people!!We need a revolution here.Practice what you preach!Don't just sit at home and write articles & comments about how bad the state of Goa is ,do something about it.here's a suggestion.Pick up junk buses or trucks and park them in front of each politicians home's front door(literally blocking the entrance),and then watch how fast they act, document the whole thing and make it public on youtube or prudent media. Its about time we become the aggressors.Nobody seems to be confronting these politicians.10 freaking years to decide on how to move a piece of junk in this age advance technology & communications!!SHAME ON YOU GOAN POLITICIANS!!
    Viva Goa!!Viva Niz Goenkar!!

  5. The River Princess is grounded bang opposite the beach which was at one time used as a landing site for gold smuggling. The plot belonged to a notorious underworld don and his henchman who smells like Marquis de Pompadour, and who has constructed a resort there. Initially, Chorchill and many of the other chors were funded by this Mumbai don. Chorchill and the other chors owe their rise to fame (infamy) because of this don. A small bird also tells me that this don has a relative who works in the media/advertising in Dubai and he is using that position as a front to cover his nefarious activities of helping Chorchill, the Monster Rat and the other chors to buy properties in the Gulf. He is also said to be a notorious money launderer and a supari killer. The same bird also told me that this incognito frontman is on the hit list of Chotta Rajan.
As for the removal of the River Princess, maybe there is politics involved because of the connection of the don to the Chorchill and the other chors. Looks like, Rane and now Digu did not get their bottles of Marquis de Pompador.

  6. Rumour has it that one of our politicians is interested in converting the "River Princess" into a 'grounded' casino (for 3 card flush & rummy) & matka betting, for the crew of the over excessive fishing trawlers who are plundering our coast. No wonder the mackerels have migrated to the east coast. The river princess should be sunk nearby and converted into an artificial reef,it will not only be cost effective & beneficial to the marine life but also can be used as education tool for various purposes, like a science project for our schools.

  7. Wasn't SMIPL the ex-charterer (mind you he has never ever proven himself to be the legal owner) and many times an unsuccessful bidder(iron ore miners are not salvagers no matter how much they try to fool the locals and the ever foolish govt).

Here is a thought : why would an owner tender to remove his own ship unless he was never the owner to begin with!!!.

Goa has a professional salvage company - Madgavkar with a proven track record. Common sense must prevail here and the job given to a salvage company. If not this issue would fill this columns many more happy years to come.

  8. It is really interesting to see the state of politics in Goa as it takes ten years to remove the wreck ship debris. But there are industrious rubbish removals in gold coast that have a professional approach to their job. For more information, log on to http://www.pkremovals.com.au.
