FOR THE EYES OF GOANS ONLY by Shyam Sawant, Ponda

Welcome Sagres FFs by Carlos Fernandes
I write these few lines in regard to NRP Sagres’ arrival in Goa. I can understand the BJP protests, as they are desperate to be in the limelight. But I fail to understand the Goan Freedom Fighters (FFs) joining them in the protest. They should have welcomed the Portuguese with garlands of gold.
It is because of the Portuguese that they are able to call themselves Freedom Fighters and draw hefty pensions and other benefits. The Portuguese must be having a good laugh saying, “Goan Freedom Fighters got rid of the foreign yoke so that they could themselves be the heavier yoke to Goans forever,” as it would be impossible for Goans to get rid of this domestic burden on the tax payers.
BJP must stick to present by Maria Fernandes, Houston-Texas
Even after 50 years our administration is in turmoil with no party claiming popular mandate. Note also the irreversible plunder of our motherland in the name of development. Now extrapolate backward the physical change of Goa’s denizens to about 500 years at the beginning of Portuguese rule. The reasons that brought the famous ‘Beautiful Goa’ phrase would have been lost centuries ago. How dare BJP call 500 years of Portuguese rule as the darkest period in Goa when during this same period Harijans, a sizeable populace in India were condemned to live and die as lesser than human? I am for fairness not Portuguese.
Wake up BJP! By J Pinto, Mapuca
This refers to the news item titled ‘BJP trains guns on Portuguese Ship’. The BJP spokesperson spoke of ‘dark age’ and ‘undergo conversion’. I am grateful my ancestors converted to Christianity, because they have brought me from darkness to light. Instead of training their guns on the Portuguese ship, the BJP should train their guns on corruption, indiscipline and wanton destruction of our environment and the bull dozing policies we are witnessing today.
The various government buildings built by the Portuguese are still looked upon as monuments. The Portuguese are instrumental for the multi-cultural society and architecture which exist in Goa as a result of which Goa is on the tourist map of the World. BJP, awaken to reality. Do not try to fool others and in the process fool yourselves. Adopt a secular and positive outlook and let us move forward. Let us together make Goa the most beautiful and peace loving State to live in.

  1. I visited the Ship Sagres and was given a warm welcome. The crew were so nice and gentle and very loving. Truly it has been said that the Portuguese were and are the best people among the Europeans and they love the Goans. Donkeys like Karmali who live in a dreamland like Alice in Wonderland will never know how far the world has advanced.

  2. BJP is a gone case party, they know that their communalism has no place for them in Goa among the normal Hindus, Christians and Muslims. So they are going nuts and are trying to create a place for themselves not knowing that people are through with them.

  3. what right does Karmali and his gang have to call themselves freedom fighters? They did a job a wrong job and were paid for it and are still paid for it inspite they are no longer doing the job again. No one has done it free of charge. They have taken money and are still taking money for that. Karmali should stop his bragging that he is a freedom fighter and he fought for freedom when the truth is he did it for money, a wrong act for money.

  4. Each of the author has written wonderfully and superbly. They are right in every aspect and every angle. I love these articles. The indian govt should be ashamed of this act. BJP should never be voted to power. I will make sure that they lose round about 300 votes from my constituency and this is a guarantee.

  6. This right wing party are not in the interest of Goa . Members of the past two main parties MGP and UGDP sold their souls to BJP and COngress. BJP is out to destroy communal harmony while Congress introduced corruption and the destruction of Goa. A stronger third party is required to combat the menace in Goa.

  7. There are a few that genuinely comment on the content of the article and the rest stray away mindlessly into oblivion. I see them to be some individuals who are banished from their cultural structure and living a secluded life with nothing to do.

I guess, they are here to elevate the blog counter for Niz Goenkar.
