MAPUCA POLICE DETAIN 108 LABOURERES

PANJIM: Around 108 labourers residing in Karaswado and Colvale, in Bardez taluka were detained on Sunday moring and later released after being produced before the Bardez sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Dashrath Redkar by Mapusa police.
The labourers were detained in connection with the recent theft at Laxmi Narayan temple at Tivim, Assnora. "Most of the labourers are natives of Karnataka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala and they did not have any identification proof," sources said.
According to Mapusa police the combing operation begin at 7am, Sunday. Police detained the labourers under Section 41 of the CrPC. After interrogation Mapusa police produced all the detained labourers before the SDM who then released them. The Laximi Narayan temple had been broken into on Friday and silver items valued at ` 8 lakh stolen.
Gomantak Mandir and Dhaarmik Sanstha Mahasangh on Sunday presented a memorandum to Mapusa PI Rajesh Kumar demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the theft. – TNN
