MARGAO: The Fatorda Development Committee (FDC), Borda, Margao, has threatened to resort to a 'Fatorda bandh' on July 3, if the authorities fail to shift scrapyards from Chandrawaddo in Fatorda by July 2.
FDC president Camilo Barreto told media persons on Monday that the government would be held responsible for any untoward incident on account of the bandh.
"In view of the danger posed to the lives of residents in the locality on account of the activities carried out inside the scrapyards, we had demanded that all such units located at Chandrawaddo be shifted from there. Our two-month deadline is coming to an end on July 2. We will resort to a Fatorda bandh on July 3 if the government fails to act on our demand by then," Barreto said.
Outlining the threats posed to the lives of the residents, Barreto said that the scrapyards discharge chemicals into the paddy fields causing skin problems to farmers, besides preventing children to play freely in the area owing to the movement of trucks causing hazardous chemicals.
It may be recalled that one person had died and two seriously injured following an explosion that took place inside a scrapyard located at Chandrawado, two months ago. - TNN

This is the fate and the lesson for the rest of Goans to think of future rather than inviting the industrial developers to destroy their peaceful ecosystem. Throw the Sharks out and we are with you dear people of Fatorda.
