Accused Snehal Gaonkar |
All the accused in the case are charged with murder by poisoning the young girl under sections 302, 328 of IPC. Acting on the missing report filed by her father the police had rescued Utkarsha from her kidnappers and later died at GMC Bambolim on July 27th where she was admitted after her rescue.
According to the Valpoi police, the incident had taken place on 16th July. The accused had picked up the victim, who was her niece from her school at Poriem Satari and then taken her to an isolated place in Bicholim. There the young girl was confined to a room with the help of the parents of the accused. When rescued the girl was in a critical condition and was admitted to the hospital by the police. During the medical examination of the victim, it was revealed that she was administered poison through food during her confinement. Police said that Sumedha, the mother of the main accused Snehal had convinced her daughter that by kidnapping Utkarsha they could pressure the estranged husband of Snehal. But the whole incident ended in a disaster for the victims family where they lost their daughter.
It's a very difficult case do be judged. Never the less there is no deterrent to these type of cases, because the punishment is not harsh enough. A very young girl losing a life through family violence is a bitter pill to swallow . We need to have stricter laws in Goa do deter this type of incidents.
