FOR THE EYES OF GOANS ONLY

Letters to the Herald by Goans
Golden or gold-plated jubilee? By Jonas Correia, Aldona
Goa is gearing up for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Liberation on 19 December. On the 10th Anniversary, there was a special midnight Assembly session, when legislators bragged about their achievements. The late M Boyer in one of his songs had responded that the number of murders in Goa during those 10 years had surpassed those during 450 years of Portuguese rule!
Apart from murders, rapes, frauds, bribery, drugs, cheating, corruption, forgeries, manipulations, suicides, accidents, defections, bail jumping, countermanding, robberies, thefts, scams, deforestation, illegal mining, debauchery, anticipatory bails, waning agriculture, misrepresentations, peddling, molestation, migrants, garbage, hill cutting, illegal constructions, etc, words strange to most of us before Liberation, its greatest gift to us is the ‘GRILL’, starting with the front door. A luxury in Portuguese times, it has now become a necessity for peaceful living in ‘free’ India, and virtually made us prisoners in our own homes.
Could we say, without exaggeration, that it will be more of a gold-plated anniversary than a golden one?
Anti-Christian remarks by Col Cyril P D’Souza (Retd), Calangute
The recent remarks by Khanapur BJP MLA Prahlad R are to be condemned by one and all. The MLA said that “Indians need to weed out Christians”. What does he mean by this, when he has received most of his education from Catholic institutions? Such statements only go to show what is on the mind of hardcore BJP elements. And the BJP is trying to woo minority votes in Goa…?
Public, not police by Julius Carvalho, Dubai
It is great injustice for Herald to show a picture of thieves caught by alert Dabolim residents posing with Vasco police. They were apprehended by the public, but the photo makes it look as if PSI Filomena D’Costa and her team arrested them!
The cops were sleeping all these days, and thieves were having a great time. Finally, when apprehended by the alert public, the shameless cops got their picture clicked with the thieves. You should have shown the picture of those brave persons who caught the thieves. The DGP should reward them, so that in future the public will keep closer watch on suspicious persons in their neighbourhoods

Where are the HJS now? Are they hiding behind their mother's pallu? Now there is nobody to condemn this speech by the politician who wants to wipe out christianity. Even the Catholic politicians of Goa are silent over the issue. HJS came running to block the paintings of Dr. Jose Pereira. Now their mouths are shut. Where is Mr. Chodankar sleeping? This shows that Chodankar and his gang of HJS are totally communal and haters of other religions in a democratic country like India.

  2. What does Goa's liberation mean to today's generation? =Importation into Goa of every Crime and disease on earth from Main Land India, which was never heard of during the Portuguese rule.
After liberation we have the right wing Hindu Party BJP MLAs such as Prahlad R who want to wipe out the Christians. Thank God in Goa we have many sensible Hindus that object Right Wing Hindus.
Thanks to the Residents of Dabolim that these thieves have been apprehended For the Police.

  3. Who or which Government have labeled 19th December as "Goa Liberation Day"? The Supreme Court of India has stated that Goa was conquered by India as military force was used. Politicians twist everything, and our ignorant Goans dance to their tune. Goa has been looted by the Indians. Just open your eyes and see what is left of Goa.
