TIATRIST & MIMICRY KING OF KONKANI STAGE: SHEIKH AMIR

GOA: Sheikh Amir has been entertaining audience of the Konkani stage with his class act of mimicking various Konkani stage artistes and politicians, as well as doing comedy roles. 25 years on stage is a long time. To mark this achievement, he has released an audio CD titled ‘No 1’, where he sings songs in the voices of various leading tiatrists.
Sheikh Amir has written the lyrics and sings all the 10 tracks. There is ‘Ixttagot’, ‘Fath Mari’, ‘Tin Cheddvam’ (M Boyer) , ‘Dubau’ (Young Chico) , ‘Voddta Tai’, ‘Mama Mia’ (Jacinto Vaz), ‘Asvason’ (Francis de Tuem) ‘Romi Bhas’ (William de Curtorim), ‘Parrikar Guru’ (Trio Kings) and ‘Omor Tallo’ (Lorna).
While all the songs are rendered well, the mimicry artiste delights as he imitates the voice of M Boyer, Francis de Tuem, William de Curtorim and the Trio Kings (in three different voices). Rabin D’Pietro backs the songs with some good arrangements.
All in all, the music is pleasant to the ears. A different album and an enjoyable one. Add it to your collection.
NIZ GOENKAR ADDS: It is really a great achievement knowing that Muslims are ever seen on the Konkani Tiatr stage. But Amir yes, he showed the Goans that a Goan Muslim can be a very very good tiatrist on the Konkani stage and he proved it. It makes us Goans proud that a son of Goa has excelled in mimicing our top artists some of whom are gone and a few are there.  Amir made them come alive with his Tiatristic mimicry.  Rightly he is the King of Konkani stage's Mimicry.

Sheikh Amir, we wish more of our GOAN Muslims follow your example and come up on the Konkani stage and follow your footsteps. Konkani is not just of Christians or Hindus but of Muslims too who are of Goan origin and all the Goans who were and are Goans from the beginning and now.

  3. Kudos Sheikh Amir! In olden days on Christians were acting in tiatrs and that too, only men. Then slowly women joined in but still it was only christian actors, dominated by christians. Then our Hindu brothers started appearing one by one and today we can see so many hindu actors some of who are better than the christians. Now Sheikh Amir has created history by becoming the first Muslim Tiatrist and that too a superb actor. God Bless you Sheikh Amir and give you a long life on the Konkani stage. We are proud of you and I hope to see more aspiring Muslims who want to act in tiatr. Our current tiatrists, please support them. We are all one. Christians, Hindus or Muslims. All Niz Goenkars! God Bless us all. And god Bless Konkani!
