James Moraes (‘Golden Goa’, Herald, 15 July) should not blame foreign tourists for all the problems faced by Goa. We do not litter and pollute Goa; we are taught not to litter and take our rubbish home. About corruption, Goan and Indian voters have brought that upon themselves. We do not commit murders. Slums and migrants are the problems of politicians, not foreign tourists. Finally, drugs have been easily available in Goa right from the ’60s, and the problem is for your police to sort out.
Many Goan landlords depend on tourism for their living. A lot of money comes from Goans living and working in the tourism industry in other countries. Mr Moraes, please do not tar us all with the same brush.
Not false, but true
By Stephen Dias, Dona Paula
In one of the recent Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, I was told that migrants are manipulating to get their tuition fees paid by their respective MLAs. For ordinary Goan families, fees of about Rs2,000 per month is beyond their capacity.
This is one of the tricks played by politicians in Goa to gain votes. If this trend continues, one day we will have migrants as candidates for elections. Can our CM and Education Minister listen to the grievances of ‘aam admi’ Goans who cannot afford these high fees and ensure that the fee structure is affordable to them?

NIZ GOENKAR ADDS: Mr. M. Johnson is not a Goan. He is a British and what he has said is perfectly right. The British do not litter or dirty places as does the Ghanttis who are the migrant workers and non goans. We see that in UK here.
