Fish Sellers Beware of the Stale Fish

PANJIM, JULY 22 Fish vendors operating in the Panjim market, selling stale and rotten fish will be in trouble if they continue with their unhealthy trade practices. Soon there will be weekly checks to keep watch on fish vendors cheating consumers.Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane stated on the floor of the House, during Zero Hour, on Thursday, that his department in co-ordination with Urban Development Minister will see that weekly inspections are carried out in the Panjim fish market.
He was replying to a “Zero Hour” question posed by St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes complaining that fish vendors royally cheat people by selling stale and rotten fish and there have been no checks whatsoever on their activities. The prices of fish have gone up and when consumers spent Rs 150-200 to buy a small portion of fish, there’s no guarantee that they will get a good deal. “Vendors cheat consumers by keeping fish in ice as it appears fresh for sometime but later it stinks,” she pointed out urging the government to do something.
