For The Eyes of Goans Only

A letter by Arwin Mesquita from UAE

Mauvin(Cansaulim) Letter to the Editor (UAE)

Subject: Mauvin Godinho (Cansaulim Mega-Project)

There is a wide publicity in Goa & Overseas on MLA Mauvin Godinho; that he and his political/other colleagues are supporting a Non-Goan builder, to construct a Mega- Project in Cansualim. There are also strong allegations of intimidation of local residents to accept this monstrosity. In all fairness, MLA Mauvin Godinho should be given a chance come out clearly, on whether he supports this mega-project or not. If he does not, then I request him to oblige to the Cansualim Gram Sabha's request on scrapping it; if not then his true intentions for Goa will be known by all; surely Mauvin knows the negatives of Mega-Projects on Goa, its land, environment, demographics & identity!!

Mockery of democracy - by B V S Priolkar, Margao

A government employee gets suspended when (s)he is behind bars for 48 hours. The pension, salary and other benefits get affected. For a government job, the credentials and integrity of the person are verified. But for our elected representatives in the Assembly/Parliament, integrity and credentials are unimportant. They get pay, allowances, pension and all other facilities no matter what. When these MLAs/MPs go to police custody or jail for the offences against them, they lose nothing. They continue to be MLAs or MPs, enjoy pay and pension uninterrupted, and get a police escort to attend the Assembly or Parliament. This is a sheer mockery of democracy. Are MLAs and MPs not bound by any code of conduct? How can the Speaker entertain such people? The Speaker should disqualify such members, and they should forfeit pay and pension, just like government employees.

NIZ GOENKAR ADDS: We the Niz Goenkars have to take a look at the above situation and make sure that these crooks do not get an inch of our soil to be given to the GANTTIS. Let us say OUT to the GANTTIS along with scums like Mauvin.
