Nadia Torrado's Mother Sonia Arrested by CB

In a late night development, the Crime Branch team arrested Nadia Torrado’s mother Sonia on charges of culpable homicide and destruction of evidence. Crime Branch officials said she was arrested under Sections 306, 309, 304, 201 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code. She was thereafter taken for medical examination in the Goa Medical College at Bambolim before she was put in the lock-up, late night.

Sonia, 55, was asked to appear before the team in the Crime Branch office after which inspector Sunita Sawant arrested her at about 8:30pm. Sonia’s maid servant during the interrogation had disclosed to Crime Branch that Sonia asked her to burn five bags containing documents and clothes belonging to Nadia, immediately after the body was flown to Goa from Chennai.

Crime Branch while opposing former Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco’s anticipatory bail in the Margao Sessions Court, almost a week ago, had pointed out to Sonia’s involvement in the crime. Nadia’s laptop, mobile phone, passport and the crucial poison tube that she apparently consumed have vanished.

The investigating team had informed the Court that it was probing the disappearance.
She was initially taken to Margao Apollo Hospital after she apparently consumed poison and later flown to Thane Jupiter Hospital in a chartered ambulance. She was finally taken to Chennai Apollo for liver transplant where she died on May 30.
