PANJIM: The special judicial magistrate (SJM), Ms Maria Mascarenhas, on Friday, spurned the request of the police officer to record the statement of Ms Kalpita Gawas, cousin of the deceased, Chandru Gawas. Ms Mascarenhas said, "I first want clarification from the police about the allegations made against me that I am related to a politician and only then I would record the statement otherwise not.’’
She further said that "I have asked for justification from the police on this and only then I would be available for recording the statement under Section 64 of Indian Penal Code," and pointed out that she is not at all related to any politician by blood.
"I might have helped a person in distress purely on humanitarian basis and if he is related to a politician or anybody else where does I figure in relation to a politician?" she questioned.
"Why should I carry such blots on my fair image when I am not at all involved in such kind of favouritism?’’ she further asked.
Besides, special judicial magistrate suspects that deceased Chandru Gawas’ cousin was scared to visit the hospital as she was never seen in the hospital when she (Ms Mascarenhas) was recording the statement as she (Ms Mascarenhas) went to the hospital twice on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, North, Mr Arvind Gawas, stated that on Thursday the matter relating to handing over the copy of the dying declaration to the police investigating officer came up for hearing but on Friday nothing of this sort came up in the court and as such police till date did not get the copy.
As always the Police of Goa are again looking foe excuses to protect their own kind of criminals. Goan police have lost their credibility and are now pushed in a corner. Goans let is take our Goa now and clean our politicians and the Police. Bring Goa back to before the forced liberation.
