MAPUSA: Anjuna police have recovered goods worth 5 lakh that were stolen from a night club and sold to a person in Mapusa. Tajinder Singh Chhatwa had complained to the police that between June 19 and June 22, two persons committed theft of furniture, sound system, kitchen items, crockery items and other articles from Octopus club, Anjuna, all worth 7 lakh.
The complainant also said that he suspected Brijesh Singh, who worked as a security guard, and Girish Shetty alias Sunny, who is a partner in the club, of having committed the theft with their common intention. The complaint was registered on June 23 this year.
In the course of the investigation, police learnt that a local boy Chandan Asrekar, 25, was close to the accused. On being questioned, Chandan confessed to the crime and informed the police that he along with Singh, 30, native of Uttar Pradesh, had committed the theft.
Police registered an offence against the two persons under Sections 457, 454, 380 and 381 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Asrekar also told police that they sold the freezer, chairs, fans and crockery to a person from Mapusa.
However, they did not tell the buyer that they were selling stolen goods. Instead they said that they were selling the goods as Singh was moving out of the state. Police said that only the sound system, which worth 2 lakh, is yet to be recovered. Singh is absconding and police are trying to trace him.
