When asked if there was any hand of Zuari Indian Oil Tanking Ltd (ZIOTL) Gaonkar said “At this stage we cannot speak about it, but we are investigating into all the angles”. He also added that the police have more people on their list and are being investigated. So far the police have attached three tankers and a Bolero bearing number GA09 – A5777.
This petrol pilferation racket had been busted last month by the Verna police who said that the racket had been going on since past one year. It was only through an unknown informer that ZIOTL learnt about the theft of petrol. A two meter deep tapping connection was made to the underground pipeline running from the Mormugoa Port to the oil depot at ZIOTL in Zuarinagar, Sancoale. The twenty inch diameter pipeline that supplies petroleum products like petrol, diesel, naphtha and kerosene had about an inch diameter hole which was connected with an L shaped reducer pipe. The oil company worker dug deep inside to get the tapping connection off the pipeline.
Whilst stealing the petroleum products the perpetrators used a white car which was kept parked at the connection to avoid the detection. The car is yet to be traced according to the police. The police also said that the investigation has progressed significantly.
Many of the Goan Police are honest and good at their Job. but there are few that are on the wrong side of the coin. These cases could have been solved earlier.
