WILL THE HIGH COURT STEP IN? by Adv. Aires Rodrigues, Ribandar

Today we have some government advocates appearing for private parties in cases against the government. This is totally unacceptable and an unethical practice that is going on unabated. In fact government advocates should not even appear in private matters before quasi-judicial authorities as they appear and advise them in matters before the High Court and other courts. As lawyers our acts should never match the colour of our gowns.
The Advocate General should have been a role model to the entire legal fraternity by first maintaining high and noble standards himself. But unfortunately we are seeing a sordid state of affairs. So who will crack the whip? Maybe the Honourable High Court should step in and take suo-motu action on those government advocates who are acting in clear conflict of interest by appearing in matters against the government.

It is not the Judicial system you mean Dalia; it is the Government who appoints lawyers as Govt. lawyers that allow all this nonsense for their commission.
