RESCUED GIRLS TAKEN OVER BY NAGALAND POLICE

PANJIM: A team of senior police officers from Nagaland visited the state and took the custody of the girls, who were rounded up from a beauty parlour in Porvorim in a raid conducted by the Anjuna police on October 9, informed a source from the women police station.
The source stated that the police officials arrived here on Friday at around 3 p.m. and took the custody of the victim girls from Nagaland, who were rounded up by the police on suspicion that they had been forced into prostitution by the owner of the beauty parlour.
All the rescued girls were detained by the police and were lodged in the Protective Home at Merces after carrying out their medical examinations and ascertaining the facts.
Even, the Nagaland State Women Commission had taken strong objection to their detention and had written a letter to the Goa State Women’s Commission chief and asked her to look into the matter. Exactly after 10 days of the controversy, the police officials from Nagaland came to the state along with the parents of the girls and took their custody after completion of all the formalities and left for Nagaland.
The police officials from Nagaland had to come down as the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Bardez had ordered that only Nagaland police can take their custody and refused to hand them over to either parents or NGOs. It may be recalled that a couple of days ago, a team of Manipur police had come down to the state and had taken the custody of six girls, who were rescued from the beauty parlours located at Anjuna and Arpora.
