POINGUINNIM: A group of conservationists from Canacona have called upon all the people renting out rooms and shacks/tents to tourists, along the coastal belt of Canacona, in private properties, to join hands to save families, children and villages against the evils and bad effects, which give rise to environmental and health hazards.
They opine that golf courses and tourist activities would ruin villages, youth, etc, and that this would increase the school drop-out rate, as the fast money from sale of drugs and the sex trade lure the young boys and girls. They also say that this menace will surely give rise to teenage pregnancies and abortions.
Elaborating their stand further, they said golf courses are bad as pesticides and fertilizers are used to maintain golf courses, and these will definitely contaminate ground water, specially the village wells. It will create acute water and power shortage in the villages and other environmental and health hazards.
Speaking further, they contented that renting of rooms/shacks/tents to the tourists will only make Galgibaga another haven of sun, sand, wine, women and sex, for the hippies, who have nothing to offer to the youth except drugs, nudism and philosophy of free sex, love and AIDS.
They informed that Galgibaga beach is a protected beach for the nesting of Olive Ridley turtles, and as such, any of these activities would only prompt the turtles to move away from this turtle nesting site.
Hence they have call upon the residents to protect not only the environment but save the children from these evils which can likely ruin their future. (NT)
It is a know fact that this ‘tourism’ is BAD for Goa. Goa is being exploited and PROSTITUTED in the name of tourism! We don’t have good Goans who are working in Tourism Dept who are looking out for Goa for the LONG RUN! But the local people say they want that easy money, what can one say, except watch as Goa goes from bad to worse. Greed and that easy money if what is in the minds of our people…... If one has to go to the Middle East for a job, than do so, and save OUR Goa….And this notion that Tourism is creating jobs, all non-Goans are working in this industry! Only the greedy Goans who want the easy money are working at the top to fill their pockets. Goa is sold as a playground for the rich and 'anything goes'....this is OUR home! Not a filthy playground! Look at all the perverts that flock from all over India that come to ‘gawk at white women’. Then end up stealing and robbing us of our ancestral gold and valuables in our homes…….Goa is place with villages and with a people that live with a set of values. We are giving it all up in the name of tourism! The Indian government does not care about Goa, so long as they get the foreign exchange pounds and dollars! If you tell people in Goa, they say that you are too smart and we should not be telling them what to do in Goa., and then they wonder why they are in a mess in Goa. Look at the russkies and non-Goan Indians from Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi buying up our Goa!!!!! The russkies mafia working with traitors and thieves – yes Goan traitors, selling our Goa for GREED. The writing is on the wall!!!!! Tourism is ruining Goa and our people!!!!! Too many outsiders, who come exploit Goa. When Goa is destroyed, they will leave and leave us in the mess!!!! When are our people going to listen???? When???? Stop being greedy and looking for that easy money. Don't blame politicians; we are a reflection of them!
ReplyDeleteThe group of conservationists from Canacona are correct and must be supported by Goans from all walks of life. Goa has been destructed in the name of progress, We need to united and save what is left of Goa. The politicians have turned Goa into one Big living Hell to add we have every criminal element to go with it. Goa should be advertised as a Criminals and Drugs destination rather than Tourist destination.
ReplyDeleteThe tourism no doubt brings in some money but it also brings in many other evils like gambling, drug addiction, STD (Sexually transmitted diseases), crimes, rapes, thefts robberies, garbage, dirt, filth, in- migration of labour, etc etc!
ReplyDeleteThe jobs it creates are like cooks, buttlers, room boys and most of these go to the migrants as the locals are not willing to work on the low wages offered!
