CHURCHILL RULES OUT BIAS TOWARDS PEOPLE IN SELECTING BPL PEOPLE

MARGAO: The RDA Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao, on Wednesday, said that over 70,000 people have been brought under the below poverty line (BPL) list and ruled out bias towards people from constituencies represented by the opposition.
"I have not discriminated against anyone and have added whoever approached us and were genuine," Mr Alemao added.
He said that the MGNREG scheme and the gas cylinder scheme have been the most popular schemes under the RDA and that many people have benefited from the gas cylinder scheme initiated by the state government.
Replying to a query about allegations that he was favouring people from Navelim and Cuncolim constituencies, he said that the allegations are baseless and "we have not discriminated against anybody."  Further, he said that the Congress will surely return to power after the forthcoming general elections in the state.
He also said that the Centre led by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and supported by UPA chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi have come out with people-oriented schemes. Similarly, the state government led by the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat has undertaken lot of people-friendly schemes which have been well publicized.
He said that the people are aware what the government has done for them and added that there will not be much competition from other parties.
Meanwhile, Mr Alemao distributed fertilizers to farmers from Navelim on Wednesday evening. He urged them to continue farming, adding nearly 75 per cent of the people have returned back to the fields.  He also said that he proposes to purchase power tillers and harvesting machines to help the villagers cope with the shortage of labour. - NT

  1. There is a real funny side to this. How can the Number one/two prosperous state in this country have  so many people living in poverty? Even Churchill  can register himself under BPL, because whoever  is in need of more and more money, is the poorest.
