PANJIM: The relatives and friends of late Cipriano Fernandes (39), resident of Khursawado, Moira, submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the State Police Complaint Authority (SPCA), Justice Mr Eurico De Silva (retired) at Altinho-Panjim, on Monday morning.
The cousin of the deceased, Mr Cosme Fernandez, urged the SPCA to take up the complaint and initiate action against the police officers involved in the case.
Addressing the media, Mr Cosme demanded suspension of the police sub inspectors attached to the Panjim Town police station, Mr Radesh Ramnathkar, Mr Vijay Chodankar, and constable, Mr Sandeep Shirvoikar for allegedly torturing Cipriano, while he was in police custody.
He reiterated that the body will not be claimed by the relatives for final rites, unless investigation is taken to the logical conclusion by suspending the police officials involved in torturing the deceased while in their custody.
The office bearers of Utt Goenkara alleged that the police have a history, wherein they have misused section 151 of CrPC, to extort money from people and arrest people on flimsy grounds.
Why suspend, arrest them and put behind bars. Give them the same treatment as they gave to Cipriano, leave them to the common man, in our hands and we will show the police how they can be well treated at our own hands. If not the uniform and the stars on their shoulders, the police are as coward as a street rat. Goans, raise your voice and lend support to the family of Cipriano. If Cipriano was bad or good, it is not our worry. Our concern shoud be how common man is being treated by the Brutes of Law. How common man is taken for a ride by the corrupt Government of Cowmuth.
ReplyDeletePolice had no right to hammer him in custody. Greater criminals and spoilers of Goa who push drugs into Goa and spoil our children are given free passage, a safe passage. Goans going to Gulf, specially the womenfolk who go as housemaids or for domestic jobs are harrased at the airports, specially in Goa to extort the last penny from their purse. How can Dudu have his girlfriend staying with him in police custody and enjoy their hospitality? These are some of the questions to be asked by the common man.
