ALL GOA SOLO AND GROUP DANCE COMPETITION AT VALPOI

VALPOI: The Phoenix Socio Cultural Association of Valpoi recently organised all Goa solo and group dance competition called Dancing Liberty at Valpoi higher secondary ground, Valpoi. The competition saw performances of the dancers in both solo and group category from all over the state which was witness by around 2000 audiences.

In solo dance category 7 participants including Gauri Bhartu, Aruna Phatarpekar, Ankita Desai, Sarvangi Desai, Sanshika Shirodker, Sobita Kudtarkar and Srushti Nerurkar had performed. While 8 groups which includes, Valpoi Rockers, Gyan Sagar, Vanashree group, Extremer, Krishna group, Free-stylers, Blooming flowers and Mind-Freekers showed their dance versatility in group dance category.

Winner of solo dance was Srushti Nerulker while runner up was Sanshika Shirodker both from Mapuca. In group dance Free-Styler from Vasco bagged the first place and awarded Rs10000 plus trophy and runner up were Extremer from Panjim were awarded Rs7000 plus trophy. The competition was judged by a panel of juries which includes Ms Jagetha Murlidahran, Mr Rajesh Tiverekar and Mr Abrar Shaikh.

During the function the meritorious students from Valpoi were felicitated at the hands of the Health Minister, Mr Vishwajit Rane. Those felicitated were MBBS student Ms Pooja Hegde and an Architect Ms Jamila Shaikh who has top in Goa college of Architecture in May 2010.

Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, Mr Umesh Gulelkar, Chairperson of Valpoi municipal council praised the association and said that the PSCA is performing well in social and cultural field. He said, “Organising such event with a dual concept of entertainment and motivation is to be appreciated” and added that youth gets a platform to present their hidden talent in such competitions. Councillor, Mr Darmendra Salonke lauded the efforts of the association and said that the only association in Valpoi actively which brings out such mega event and promotes social, cultural and entertainment events in Satari. The other invitees were councillor, Mr Idrus Shaikh, Mr Ramdas Shirodker, Ms Sehzin Khan and Mr Prakash Gawas.
