MARGAO: The Margao mandal of the BJP has not taken kindly to the recent visit of chief minister Digambar Kamat to Monte Dongor along with district collector G P Naik, and has branded the exercise as an attempt to appease his vote bank.
Addressing a press conference, vice president of the Yuva morcha (youth wing) of the BJP, Sharmad Raiturcar, said that by visiting Monte Dongor residents and reportedly promising them of bringing the administration to their door steps, the chief minister has conveniently forgotten that Monte Dongor alone does not constitute Margao constituency.
"It was nice of the chief minister to pay a courtesy visit to Monte Dongor. It is learnt that he assured the residents that they need not go to the collectorate for getting their names included in ration cards, etc and that the revenue officers will visit the area to redress their grievances. We congratulate the chief minister for providing assurance of people-friendly administration to the people of Monte Dongor. However, we wish to remind the chief minister that apart from Monte Dongor, there are several other areas in Margao where people have to run from pillar to post for simple tasks, and there is noone to listen to their woes," Raiturcar said.
The BJP was also critical of the district collector for not giving satisfactory replies to their queries over the purpose of his visit to Monte Dongor when a BJP delegation called on him on Thursday. "Theft cases are on the rise in Margao. Not a single day passes without a theft taking place. While the administration has neither the time nor the inclination to solve the cases, it goes out of its way to give assurances of taking the administration to Monte Dongor," Raiturcar added.
Stating that Kamat's visit to the slum area showed that he was loosening his grip over his vote bank, Raiturcar demanded that the chief minister extend his promise of people-friendly administration to the rest of Margao as well. He further warned that BJP would launch an agitation if Kamat failed to do so.
Replying to a query, Raiturcar blamed vote bank politics for the failure of the government to have rehabilitation plans for Monte Dongor slum dwellers. When the central scheme for rehabilitating inhabitants of notified slum dwellers was announced, the then power minister (Kamat) didn't support the scheme as it would have adversely affecting his vote bank interests, he said.
He however stated that the BJP was in favour of proper rehabilitation of the slum dwellers only after finalizing a certain cut-off date for the settlers. "Only those who were residing in that area at the time it was notified as a slum should be considered for rehabilitation," Raiturcar stressed.
General secretary of the Yuva morcha, Devidas Borkar, besides others, were present for the press briefing. (TNN)
If it is home coming for Digambar Kamat at Mote Dongor, why should the BJP be irritated. It is his home, he is one Goan Ghanti and worse, the protecter of Monte Dongor. Come the next election and he will see. His days are numbered.
ReplyDeleteTo Jerry :::: There are now 2 factions in Moti Dongor.

Kamat is obviously living in a fools paradise.
His right hand man Ravi Naik will soon be sacked as he too was living in a fools paradise.
