PAKISTAN SENDS ONIONS TO GOA.

PONDA: For the first time about eight tonnes of onions from Pakistan have arrived in the open markets of Goa. The price of onions, however, is yet to fall. On Thursday, onions in Panjim were selling for Rs 50-55 a kilo, with some vendors refusing to reduce the earlier price of Rs 60 a kilo. In Ponda, while retailers sold onions at Rs 55-60 a kilo, the Bagayatdar SKV Society sold onions at Rs 53 a kilo.
The Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Belgaum, had on Wednesday auctioned onions between Rs 3,800 per tonne- Rs 38 per kilo-and Rs 900 per tonne- Rs 9 per kilo. The average was Rs 2,000 per tonne- Rs 20 per kilo.
Onion wholesaler at the Panjim market Dayanand Amonkar said, "Those who are refusing to bring down the prices had bought onions at a higher rate; till they finish their stock it will be difficult for them to drop the price." With onion prices still high, traders have begun reducing the quantity they are ordering. Amonkar who would otherwise order about 5 tonnes of onions a day, is now content ordering just 2 tonnes. "The prices are expected to drop further and I do not want to have an expensive stock in hand, while other vendors sell at cheaper rates," he explained.
The Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd, meanwhile, is still selling onions at Rs 25 a kilo. "We have sold 460 tonnes since December 24, 2010, and we'll continue to sell at this rate till the government tells us otherwise," said MD Orlando Rodrigues. (TNN)

You have to purify all the markets now as the Pakistani onions have dirtied the Goan soil. You bloody dog Karmali and the other freedom farters!

To Sandesh::: I just told the Portuguese not to bother sending any Onions to Goa, as Purifying the Goan waters where the ships will dock and then leave from, will only add, further to the cost of the Onions.!!!!
