TWO ARRESTED FOR THEFT

PONDA: Raj Singh and Raju Golar, who were arrested by the Vasco police in connection with a theft, were handed over to the custody of the Ponda police on a transfer warrant, as they are required in a theft investigation here.

DySP, Mr Serafin Dias said, "The duo was arrested on June 12 and were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) and remanded to 4-day custody. During questioning, the accused confessed that they robbed the bag of Mr Kurtarkar, which contained cash of ` 1.20 lakh. Mr Dias said that some recovery has to be made from the accused.

It may be recalled that Mr Kurtarkar was attacked by some unknown persons and his bag containing cash was robbed. The incident took place about six months ago. Police said they were now investigating if the duo is involved in other cases of theft reported in Ponda areas.
