POLICE HEAD CONSTABLE’S WIFE DIES IN HOSPICIO: NEGLIGENCE?

MARGAO: Hospicio was back in the news again for the wrong reasons, when a 42-year old woman — wife of a police head constable – died in the hospital. Relatives of the deceased were quick to blame the hospital nurses and doctors for what they called as a delay in attending to the patient as she breathed her last on the hospital bed.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when deceased Varsha Vinod Gurav died after she fainted after coming out from a toilet.
What has agitated the relatives was that there were no nurses or doctors around when the incident occurred and attempts to get a nurse to attend to the patient during the emergency proved futile.
Wife of a police head constable, the deceased had undergone uterus operation at the hospital on Friday and was scheduled to be discharged on Tuesday. Her sister Vanita told Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Ruando De Sa that Varsha’s condition suddenly deteriorated but there was no nurse or doctor to attend to her.
Vanita ran from pillar to post to look out for the ward nurse who was attending to duties in another ward. Her pleas to the nurse to immediately attend to her ailing sister fell on deaf ears.
Hospicio witnessed uproar after Vanita and other relatives demanded action against the negligent nurse and doctor. The relatives claimed that Varsha died due to sheer carelessness and indifference by the nurse to immediately attend to her.
“There was a big delay on the part of the nurse to come and attend to the patient. The ward nurse had no business to go to another ward by leaving the patients like that”, Vanita said, while squarely blaming the ward nurse and the doctors for tragedy.
Incidentally, the relatives did not spare the security personnel, accusing them of being high handed in their behaviour and has demanded a probe into the episode.  Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Ruando De Sa later told newsmen that the ward nurse has claimed there was no delay on her part to attend to the patient. He said that
