ATALA THE ISRAELI DRUG DEALER ARRESTED IN PERU

PANJIM: Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, against whom an Interpol notice had been issued, has been arrested in Peru and the process to extradite him to India will begin soon, an officer said Sunday.
Atala, a drug dealer who jumped bail and fled from India, was arrested as part of the suspected police-politician-drug mafia nexus in Goa. He was linked to state Home Minister Ravi Naik's son by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Israeli's former girlfriend.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav said that the state police were intimated about his arrest Sunday. He was held in Lima in Peru Jan 7.
"Now that he has been arrested, we will start the process for extraditing him," Yadav said.
Atala was arrested in the state in March 11, 2010 after videos showing him boasting of his links to police surfaced on social networking sites.
The incriminating videos posted by his former Swedish girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse, showed Atala dealing with police officers and smoking charas.
Lucky had also claimed that Atala had business links with Naik's son Roy. The BJP accused Naik of derailing the probe because of the suspected involvement of his son.
Seven police officers were arrested for their links to Atala after initial police investigation. Atala mysteriously fled India a few weeks after he was released on bail by a local court. - IANS

Following the extradiction of Atala to Goa, we should then extradite all the Corrupt Politicians and Goa POlice to Guntanamo Bay for re-habilitation.
All their loot and plunder in Goa will also have to be confiscated.

InterPol did their job efficiently and in no time, But the f...k..ng ChandraCunt Salgaonkar was given a medal for sabotaging the case. This Salgaonkar must be paraded naked in the streets of the city

  4. I doubt if Atala will ever be extradited to India. First and foremost, I doubt if India has an extradition treaty with Peru.
    The countries that India has extradition treaties are: 1. Belgium (1958) 2. Bhutan (1997) 3. Canada (1987) 4. Hong Kong (1997) 5. Nepal (old Treaty) (1963) 6. Netherlands (1989) 7. Russia (2000) 8. Switzerland (1996) 9. UAE (2000) 10. U.K. (1993) 11. USA (1999) 12. Uzbekistan (2002) 13. Spain (2003) 14. Mongolia (2004) 15. Turkey (2003) 16. Germany (2004) 17. Tunisia (2004) 18. Oman (2005) 19. France (2005) 20. Poland (2005) 21. Korea (ROK) (2004) 22. Bahrain (2005) 23. Bulgaria (2006) 24. Ukraine (2006) 25. South Africa (2005) 26. Belarus (2008) 27. Kuwait (2007) 28. Mauritius (2008)

India has Extradition arrangements with following countries.

    1. Australia (1971) 2. Fiji (1979) 3. Itlay (2003) 4. Papua New Guinea (1978) 5. Singapore (1972) 6. Sri Lanka (1978) 7. Sweden (1963) 8. Tanzania (1966) 9. Thailand (1982) 10. Portugal (2002).
Maybe, I am not aware of an extradition treaty if at all it exists between India and Peru and someone should enlighten me on this.
Secondly, if Atala gets hold of a good lawyer, the government of Peru will be able to set him free based on some of the Articles common to most of the extradition treaties.
    There are as follows:
Article IV(2) provides that extradition shall not be granted if the offense for which extradition is requested constitutes a political offense.
Article IV(3) requires that extradition not be granted if the executive authority of the Requested State determines that the request was politically motivated.
Article VI establishes the procedures and describes the documents that are required to support a request for extradition. All requests for extradition must be submitted through the diplomatic channel. Among other requirements, Article VI(3) provides that a request for the extradition of a person sought for prosecution must be supported by such evidence as would be sufficient to justify committal for trial of the person if the offense had been committed in the Requested State. Under Article VI(5), if the Requested State requires additional evidence or information to enable it to decide on the request for extradition, such evidence or information shall be submitted to it within such time as that State shall require.

Moreover, the extradition process is a lengthly one and all documents pertaining to the case should be translated into the language of Peru, which is Spanish.
As such, I have my doubts whether Atala would return to Goa.
The other reasons why this case will fail is the court in Goa had granted him bail based on circumstancial evidence. So if the courts in Goa were not presented with enough documents to deny Atala the bail, how would the government fight his extradition from Peru?

To Bebdo::: As you stated , there will be difficulties and long delays with this extradition.
There aare 3 countries involved.Israel,India and Peru.
On the "assumption" Atala entered Peru with an Israeli passport ,how did he obtain it in Israel and depart ,while he was on the Interpol list.
The Israelis are extra security cautious Nation, and virtually paranoid about it.
The next question is ...though India issued a "red letter notice", did they actually make a request to Israel or was it purely for Indian consumption?.
As you stated, Atala was on bail and was not a convicted criminal or fugitive on the run from India.
He purely broke his bail conditions, if any existed.
Knowing the corruptness of Goa Police and the Political involvement, this Red Letter notice was possibly all a joke.
If Atala pleads that he was given all the neccessary assistance to escape from Goan Justice,by the Goa police and their ill-educated Chief Ravi Naik & his son Roy, to save their skins...then this whole case will have serious consequences and implications.
I hope this is the case where ATALA was assisted.
Then we can be assured of the truth and the malpractices of the Goa Police and Roy & Ravi.
This story will get interesting in the next few days.
This could also be the straw that finally broke the Goa Police`s reputation.

  8. The Drug-Nexus police, Roy and Naik must have already planned the future with Atala in South America. The two will be fugitives soon.
I doubt the current congress Government will want any controversy to tarnish their dented image,
