BICHOLIM: Unknown persons broke into Gangaram Jewellers at Sonarpeth, Bicholim, on Saturday night and decamped with 30 lakh-worth of gold ornaments and cash. Bicholim police said the thieves drilled a hole in the rear wall of the building housing the shop.
The theft came to light when proprietor Mahesh Gangaram Karekar of Mardol, Ponda, arrived at the shop on Sunday evening. He lodged a complaint with the police soon after. The stolen items include 55 pairs of earrings, 300 gm of melted gold, 12 lockets, 4-5 gold hairbands, 32 golden full-ear pieces, two mangalsutras of about 32 gm, several chains, 100 gm of pure gold, some fingerrings and 50,000 in cash. The thieves didn't get their hands on a 1.20 lakh-necklace in a drawer. PI Harish Madkaikar is investigating.
