MAPUCA: India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Deepak Gadekar, 32, was allegedly beaten up by home guard Shiva Gawde on Saturday for video recording the latter accepting bribes from private bus drivers at Mapusa bus stand.
In his complaint to Mapusa police, Gadekar alleged that Gawde, attached to Mapusa traffic cell, wrongfully restrained him, abused him using filthy words, assaulted him causing injuries and threatened him with dire consequences. Gadekar said he was at Mapusa bus stand on Saturday at 4.45pm clicking photographs and recording police personnel from Mapusa traffic cell accepting money from bus drivers and conductors on private buses.
According to the complaint, the home guard seeing him recording this, caught hold of the activist's neck and started abusing him with filthy words, pushed him to the ground and slapped him as a result of which he sustained injuries. Gadekar, as per Asilo hospital medical records, sustained minor injuries. DGP Aditya Arya visited the activist at Asilo hospital on Sunday. Gawde was arrested by the police and later released on surety of rs 10,000.
Police have registered a case against Gawde under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (abuse with filthy language), 323 (assault), 506 (threat to kill) of IPC Gawde also filed a complaint, acting on which police have registered a case against Gadekar under Sections 504, 323 and 427 (mischief) of IPC. Speaking on behalf of IAC, Satish Sonak has demanded that Gawde be immediately suspended as a case of assault has been registered against him.
He also stated that bribery at Mapusa bus stand by traffic police is rampant and several policemen need to be investigated in this connection. He demanded that pending investigation traffic police personnel posted at Mapusa bus stand be transferred so that they don't pressurize potential witnesses.
The first thing these criminals do is try to get evidence destroyed or stop the person from recording that crucial piece of evidence. It is rampant corruption at bus stands, at road blocks where the police instead of looking out for criminals or safeguarding the interest of the public, use this opportunity to loot the public. The public should not depend on the men in uniform any more but should take law in their own hands. Unfortunately justice will be served more efficiently by the public , then by these rogues in uniform.

ReplyDeleteGawddo arrested and released on surety of Rs. 10,000??? What is Rs. 10,000 to him??? He must have already made lakhs if not millions by taking bribes. We demand to know what action is being taken against this Gawddo??? After his release, he will be back in business to recover the Rs. 10,000. He should have been suspended indefinitely or sacked from the Police force. These are the so-called very competent Police of the Motorcycle Pilot turned Home Minister. Wonder if he too had paid bribes when he was a Motorcycle Pilot.
ReplyDeleteWith the invasion of Goa by the Indians came Police training "The Indian Corrupt Way". Obey the corrupt masters or else. Shame on Goan Police and the Judicial system.
ReplyDeleteSome of Goan Police are like beggars who do not feel ashamed to put their hands out for bribes. They will suck the last drop of your blood .

ReplyDeleteLet us all be citizen reporters and write to menino with proof, photographs, videos etc. We will then try to put it to the concerned authorities and see how far justice is served. This will definately bear fruit as then no one will know who is watching and keeping an eye on them. Get your cameras out and lets do some snooping.
ReplyDeleteThanks and God bless.. Viva Niz Goenkar..
