CHILDREN’S RIGHTS GROUPS OF GOA ARE IRKED OF THE PATHETIC LIVING CONDITIONS OF THE JUVENILES

PANJIM: Child Right groups in Goa are irked over the living conditions of juveniles in the state-run remand home, where they are allegedly deprived of enough food and clothing.  According to sources, NGO Children Rights in Goa (CRG) has written to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) stating that the children had complained about the scarcity of food and clothes during an interaction. 

There are 10 juveniles in this remand home, which exposed the happenings inside when the NGO, was holding a recreational activity for these children.

Sources claimed that juvenile Justice Board has pulled up Superintendent of the remand home, which is run by the State Women and Child Development department.  The children have claimed that they are surviving on a single pair of clothes for several weeks now.

Moreover, they are said to be spending their nights wrapped in towels sans proper clothes. They told the NGO that while they take bath, the clothes are hung for drying.

As per the guidelines, each child should be given two sets of clothing and other daily needs during their admission in the remand home. Goa State Women and Child development Director Sanjiv Gadkar was not available for comment on the issue. – PTI
