MARGAO: Inquiry into the tragic mishap involving a brand new blue colored KTC bus near the Old market circle has totally ruled out the possibility of a brake failure behind the accident. Following a report received from the bus manufacturing company, the KTCL management has served a chargesheet on suspended bus driver Shabloo Mayenkar.
KTCL Managing Director Venancio Furtado said that the bus manufacturing company has firmly ruled out any mechanical error, including brake failure, as the reason behind the accident. “The company had initiated an inquiry into the bus accident into the mishap. Their findings based on data recorded has not revealed any brake failure”, Furtado said.
In this connection, the company has now imparted training to the KTC drivers manning the new buses regarding the do’s and don’ts, he added. He said the KTCL had immediately placed the driver under suspension pending an inquiry, adding that the management has now served a chargesheet against the driver for further action.
It was on March 28 afternoon that a speeding blue coloured KTC bus claimed the life of two persons at the Colva traffic circle at Old Market here, including a PWD official Vinod Naik, a resident of Orlim and Gurudas Amonkar of Betalbatim.
The duo was killed when they were waiting to cross the road at the circle when the ill-fated speeding bus rammed against them before crashing on the circle.
Meanwhile, Trade Union Leader Christopher Fonseca on Sunday morning flagged off the first non-stop KTC bus service between Margao and Belgaum in the presence of KTCL Managing Director Venancio Furtado and other officials.
Furtado told newsmen after the ceremony that the KTCL will deploy a Volvo bus on the Margao-Belgaum route from May 15 to meet the growing demands of passengers. The non-stop luxury bus service will leave from Margao at 7 am and depart from Belgaum to Goa at 4 pm everyday. Tickets for the luxury non-stop bus can be booked online, Furtado added.
