PANJIM: Newly appointed Goa Director General of Police (DGP) Aditya Arya today said the state has been facing the menace of narcotics since the 1980s when youths from elite families began to fall for the addiction.
Arya said the during his posting as Sub Division Police officer in Goa in 1984, he encountered the problem when youths from well-to-do families of the capital city became drug addicts. "That time the children used to get tit bit of drugs," he said.
Arya claimed that in the 80s the state was neither a transit point nor used to produce drugs but small amount of narcotics were available to the local youths. "I was associated with the drug abuse prevention programme launched by a NGO," he said, adding that he would not mind getting associated again with similar initiatives. – PTI
