PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party declared Mr Santosh Aldoncar, a long-time party worker from Valpoi representing Bahujan Samaj as its candidate, to contest the assembly by-election for the constituency, scheduled next month. Mr Haldankar is expected to file his nomination papers on Tuesday.
Coming out with this information on Sunday, the president of the state unit of the BJP, Mr Laxmikant Parseker said the by-poll would be a contest between the money power of the Congress candidate, Mr Vishwajeet Rane and the strength of the BJP workers.
“We would be fighting this election on the issues of corruption of the state government, lack of development in the Valpoi constituency, as well as illegal mining activities carried out in the Valpoi region,” he added, pointing out that the people of Valpoi must now decide as to whether they should elect Mr Rane and get the forested area in the constituency converted into illegal mining zone or vote for the BJP candidate.
The press briefing was also attended by the desk in-charge of the BJP for Goa, Ms Aarti Mehra, the leader of the Opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar, the previous BJP MLA from Valpoi constituency, Mr Narahari Haldankar and Mr Santosh Haldankar.
Stating that Mr Rane has forced the by-election on the people of Valpoi through his resignation as an MLA, Mr Parsekar said the by-poll has brought the North Goa under the election code of conduct, thus hampering the development of the state during the period.
“Mr Rane’s act of resigning before the end of his term in the assembly also proves that he considers election as a child’s play and gives no respect to the electoral process,” he noted.
Mr Parsekar also said that by allowing Mr Rane to contest the Valpoi assembly by-poll, the Congress has changed its policy of not giving election tickets to more than one person in a family. “This is a clear indication that the next assembly election would have families contesting election on Congress tickets, and constituencies becoming political estates of select families,” he observed.
Ms Mehra, addressing the media said the Congress always believed in political legacy, wherein only members of certain families are allowed to contest election on the Congress tickets. “This tradition begins from the Gandhi-Nehru family and moves downwards,” Ms Mehra maintained, adding that such tradition has given way for over confidence, egoistic behaviour and dictatorial rule on the part of Congress politicians. “The people will see though this tradition and defeat Mr Rane at the Valpoi assembly by-poll,” she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Parrikar said that Mr Rane has created a false notion among public that he is developing his constituency and providing jobs to the youth. “However, all the developmental works in Valpoi, including construction of the Satrem bridge, are incomplete, and jobs have been given to around 300 youth from the constituency, while around 3,500 youth are still unemployed,” the opposition leader informed, noting that the jobs provided to the 300 youth mostly falls under D Class category, such as patient attendants, etc, and these youth spent most of the money in their transportation, for regularly commuting from Valpoi to Goa Medical College hospital or Hospicio Hospital.
Mr Santosh Haldankar told the pressmen that the people of Valpoi are aware about many of the illegal mines in the region being operated with the blessing of Mr Rane. “They are also unhappy with Mr Rane, as he is unavailable to them for at least half of the year,” the BJP candidate stated, pointing out that he is the resident of Valpoi, and would be always available to his voters, 24-hours a day.
Only Congress and BJP in Valpoi? No Niz Goenkars' party! Well... Haldankar and Viswajeet, go on fight each other and eat each other's brains out. At least we will enjoy the fight between money power and people power. I hope the fuse will burst and there will be no power at all.
ReplyDeleteI was born and brought up in Valpoi and am half a century old. My family comes from well known businessmen of Valpoi in timber and other construction materials. Ranes have been ruling these constituencies for all these decades.
ReplyDeleteNow, I live out of Valpoi for last few decades but visiting now and then.
My point is every time I visit my native home, it has not made a difference for me on the topographical aspect. Meaning, the Valpoi part of Goa is still the same under Ranes or Congress for last decades. It was much better under MGP.
This is a clear message for the Congress, we want development, we want to throw out you and your Ranes, we will vote for BJP for the betterment of our land, retain our glory and not sell our respect for your money.
Mr. Amit Desai, The MGP may have been good only to marathwaddas like you not to the Goenkars. Do not try to praise the MGP. If at all something would have been done, it would have been by Dr. Jack de Sequeira and the United Goans Party that time. Bandodkar and his party is a party of Pigs and Traitors who wanted to sell of Goa to Maharashtra.
ReplyDeleteWell said Iqbal... these are all traitors still praising the thieves. If it was not for Dr. Jack de Sequeira, Goa would have gone to the dogs. Like the baboon, these traitors keep praising their own arse.
ReplyDeleteMenino, what is your chance of winning if you contest on Niz Goenkar? Is it too late? It's your home town dear!
ReplyDeleteDalia, we have the most odd people in Valpoi. They are all blind and will never learn to act properly. The Valpoicars will never co-operate with the rest of the people of Goa this is one of the unique charateristic of Valpoikars. However hard you try to unite them and make them see sense. No way! and anyhow it is too late for me to contest the elections at Valpoi. Our Christians are the worst lot among the other people of Valpoi, Jealous of each other. There are illeterates non matriculates who among our christians in Valpoi who want to contest the elections, There is one rich family, who is very very greedy for money and run after more and more money only. I am not talking about all the Christians. There are more than 80% who would listen to me and vouch for me. They consider me as their leader. The rest 20% are a bunch of jealous.......
ReplyDeleteBased on my knowledge, I can assure you that Vishwajeet is SURE to win the election. Right now there are only two candidates. But let me tell you also this I would rather prefer Vishwajeet than BJP. Mark my words, BJP is and will always be communal.
ReplyDeleteIqbal, show me what Ranes has done for the development? They only kept us in darkness and looted the village. Remember, this Viswajeet is Vishwas Ghat. He has proved it in earlier days and not will be better now. This election is forced on us by him and his papa who are dirty politicians. I can assure you Menino, BJP will have a cake walk. The Christians are aware of the policies of Congress Raj.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Amit is blind and cannot see through the developments taking place. These developments were started much before the elections and are going on. What has your marathwada Bandodkar and his party done? All they have done is tried to kill our Konkani and implement outside language Marathi of which you are one of the fruits.
ReplyDeleteIqbal no offence meant. But let me clear one thing about this Rane family. Even in the 21st century they are behaving like the feudal lords. Most of the people in Sattari and Valpoi pay their obsience to the Rane family. That is because most of the land is owned by them, thanks to the Portuguese. When land reforms were carried out by the MGP under Bhau and Tai, the Ranes were not affected because Pratapsingh Rane and his family supported the MGP. The Ranes never supported Konkani. In fact, today if we have an affiliated status to Marathi, it is thanks to Pratapsingh Rane.
ReplyDeleteThe Ranes want the people of Sattari to be poor. They deny them their rights. If they do so, then the Ranes will lose their feudal status of Kashes. So instead of being a slave to the Ranes, I request Iqal and people of Valpoi to vote against Vishwajeet.
Vishwajeet is no saint. He is a womaniser even during his youth. He was mostly after Catholic girls and at one time had sent 100 roses to a girl from Dempo commerce, just because he wanted to screw her. He has encroached open space in Dona Paula and carried out illegal construction. The people of Dona Paula had filed complaints against him, but no action is still taken.
His neighbours in Dona Paula are subjected to nuiscance and noise pollution right from 5am in the morning because of the people from Valpoi who come to his residence to ask favours. One has to see the number of buses that start piling up in Dona Paula from early in the morning the and queues outside his bunglaw. They all stand on the main road.
So why does the people of Valpoi want a leader who belongs to the feudal class and stays in his lavish bunglaw in Dona Paula to represent them.
The people of Valpoi should vote for someone who is going to represent their interest and someone who is like them and who stays in Valpoi. They don't deserve a high-flier feudal lord to represent them in the 21st century.
Voting Rane back to power should be against the very ethic of NIZ GOENKAR. People need a new face, not a feudal face, not a sibling from the politicians and this must be a chance for our forum to encourage the people to throw out the old feudal system, the old politicians and cleanse the political system by injecting new blood. We may not win, it will still create an impact. Please throw out the old dirty and corrupt politicians.
