GOA ISSUES – ANSWERS WITHIN by Arwin Mesquita, UAE

We blame politicians who are looting/destroying Goa, its land, environment & Identity. But with all due respect, let’s first look within to see the major causes of the same.
Who has voted for corrupt MLA's

  1. Don't we ourselves support corruption & unethical democratic methods; I appreciate that sometimes we are forced to, but surely this can be avoided in many cases

  2. How many ask illegal favors from Corrupt MLA's and then become their slaves for life; what we do for selfish reasons will ultimately destroy ALL of us. Also, what we do illegally will come back to haunts us, in some form or the other

  3. How many of us Glorify various Corrupt Politicians at various events in Goa/Overseas for obvious reasons; knowing that they are the biggest destructors of Goa & our Identity; even if do invite them, how many do let these politicians know, of the our concerns on Goa

  4. Taking the Catholic perspective (it is the same for other religions), we pray, fast, try to portray ourselves as good Catholics, try to teach our children right from wrong etc and then in hypocrisy, our actual thinking/actions does the opposite and we set bad examples; aren’t we supposed to show by example?
Granted many Goans are handicapped by illegalities in the past and Corrupt Politicians use these, as points to intimidate/checkmate genuine concerns for Goa; point is that tomorrow can be a New Beginning and we can change; first ourselves and then everything else will follow. We could have made mistakes in the past but we can always stop/avoid this going forward and help Goa/Goans go for the better!! The Answer is obvious and the choice/decision is finally within each one of us!!

  3. Everybody understands the issue here needless to say, the culprits are the "Goan Electorates".

We have a reason to be with some and be at a distant with some. It is our instinctive sense that is partial to those that generally HELP you in any which way possible, without realizing the damage it will do in the long run. It is time for us GOANS to wake ourselves up and check to reflect on the the past 50 years or so, the enormous degree of damage that we GOANS as electorates have done to this tiny land of ours by electing these uneducated, unethical and ignorant fit for nothing ministers at the helm of Goa's Leadership.

We need to change now and we need to change our selfish motives so as to be concerned and confident with our thinking towards the young educated and sincere personalities that will be an example to the future of Goan soceity and to Goa.

We can, and will make the change.

  4. It is true that the answers to Goan issues are within each of us. However, I don't understand in what way Niz Goenkar is going to achieve this goal, although it claims to be doing so. When blaming the politicians and bureaucracy we are diverting the readers attention to the outside world. It is blaming somebody else all the time.

  5. Thank you Arwin, for speaking the truth! We cannot bring change to Goa until we as a people change. Too many of our people have lost their way. Look at the numbers that turn up to support Mickkey or the Monster Rat (or Chorchill) at their rallies. Supporters willing to die on the sword for these criminals!!! And they are not non-Goans, but all Goans and yes most Christian Goans!!!! I am sorry to say that, but we must face the truth! These are the people that will decide the elections!!! We can talk all we want, but if these people don't change their thinking than I don't see us winning this fight, and we might a well kiss Goa good-bye. Changes need to be made to support the people of Goa, so that they don't feel that have to settle for criminal politicians. No young Goan couple can afford to buy a piece of property to keep our culture in Goa going, as it is priced for rich north indians. It is far too excessive....we need to change the laws to make them suitable to OUR people. Thanks again Arwin. Your writings inspired me to fight for OUR Goa. You have been a crusader for a long time. It is no easy task to put in the time like you do to keep sounding the alarm……. We all need to form one medium, one outlet. We need to turn things around in Goa. We need to make Goa a place not of sadness but of good and great things. We are proud, cultured, kind and honest people! Please, let it show again…..

We need more people to voice their opinions in our Goan newspapers and the public media
