ONE HELD FOR RETIRED TEACHER’S MURDER

Mapusa Police has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Albert Luis, a retired teacher of St Britto High School, Mapusa, who was murdered at his residence at shetyewado on August 2.
Speaking to Herald, Mapusa Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar said the police had tracked down calls linked to the mobile phone of the deceased. "The suspect, Mohammad Azad, was arrested at New Delhi with the help of Delhi Police and he was brought to the State," PI Kumar said. PI Kumar further informed that Azad, who was working in a saloon in Vasco, was remanded to seven days police custody.
“Azad informed police that he had bought the mobile phone from his two friends, who are natives of Uttar Pradesh, and he was unaware about Luis’ murder at the time of purchase of mobile phone,” he informed. Accordingly, a team of police officials left for Uttar Pradesh to arrest the accused, but could not trace them at the address given by Azad.
Meanwhile, Luis’ daughter has left the State and has permanently shifted to her native place at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Even though more than a month has passed since the murder of Luis, Mapusa police is yet to arrest the accused involved in the murder.
It may be recalled that Luis was residing in a rented house along with his 17-year-old daughter, who had left for college when the murder took place. However, when she returned home at 1.15 pm, she found the door open and her father’s body in a pool of blood. Luis’ body was found in a semi-nude condition and his mobile phone and laptop stolen. The accused had fired the pistol at close range, killing Luis on the spot.
