CBI on Friday recorded the statement of the former tourism minister of Goa Francisco Xavier Pacheco in the immigration racket case after questioning him for more than three hours at their office in Bambolim. The CBI officers have also frozen Mr. Pacheco’s Bank Accounts and seized three of his mobile phones.
CBI officers summoned Francisco Xavier Pacheco alias Mickky Pacheco to its office at Bambolim on Friday afternoon for interrogation in the immigration racket case. Mr. Pacheco arrived at the CBI office at arount 12:15 in the afternoon. Before entering the office Mickky said that he is open to any enquiries. The Benaulim MLA and two of his associates have been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation for forgery and cheating after the bureau of diplomatic security, the security and law enforcement arm of the US department of States alleged that Mickky was involved in a massive immigration and money laundering racket. In this connection the CBI and the income tax sleuths raided Mickky’s residence and office at Benaulim on Wednesday and Thursday.
Mr. Pacheco is also battling the charges of the mysterious death of his friend Nadia Torrado which forced him to resign as the Tourism Minister in July last. To the media Mickky said “I don’t want to come in the way of the investigation” When asked about his mobiles taken away Mickky answered in broken English “Earlier also taken away so what?” He also added “they are doing a fair investigation and I do not want to come in their way of investigation”
To my friends on this forum, I have a question....I know Mickky was providing documents to young Goans to travel overseas for employment. If he was doing this for a profit, it is wrong, as he was using his position as the US has claimed and I agree. He made a lot of money this way. However, I see that there are not many job opportunities for our Goan youth in Goa. They are desperately trying to go overseas for jobs. What I don't understand is why don't their parents obtain Portuguese passports for them to travel on? I know the process is long, but why don't our people apply early. I think one parent in Goa should apply for a Portuguese Passport so as to ensure the children get Portuguese passports to travel. They can always return home for holidays and to retire. Please provide feedback on this matter, as I would like to look into this if and when I am in Goa, as I would like to help families out in this matter. Thanks.
