MAPUSA: With barely one month left for the tourist season to commence, the infrastructure in the coastal areas is still very poor. The prominent Morjim beach in Pernem taluka, that attracts tourists on a large scale, has poor infrastructure, the most prominent of which are the miserable roads.
The road to Morjim passing through the Agarwaddo-Chopdem panchayat, is in a miserable condition, with motorists and buses finding it difficult to manoeuvre. Big potholes have developed everywhere and the general condition of the road is pathetic. However, the Mandrem MLA, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar said that the road widening and hot-mix carpeting project was long overdue, and has finally been approved, however, the said project has been delayed due to the ongoing monsoons. He said that additional land has been acquired for this project and tenders have been floated and work orders have also been given, however, due to the delay in compensating the land owners, and the ongoing monsoons, the work has temporarily come to a standstill. He further informed that two contractors have been already given the work that involves the road work from Chopdem to Morjim and from Morjim to Ashwem.
"Around 3500 affected people are being compensated for the total project that works out to around Rs 10 crore. In this project we will be having a total of 15 metres of land at our disposal, out of which, carpet area will be of 8 metres and the other 7 metres will be for the pavement, laying of cables, pipes and also for future road widening" informed Mr Parsekar.
He said that at some places the process of land acquisition has been completed, while at other places, due to some objections the work has been held up. "We hope that the remaining land acquisition work will be complete within the next month, so that the work of hot mixing can be taken up."
Wait a minute, the Pothole Works Minister Chorchill first have to decide how much he will get or else forget Morjim roads.
ReplyDeleteBy the time the monsoon is over, the potholes will become huge wells. Hope the 40 chors will jump in each one holding their noses and I am sure there will still be many more wells left for their near and dear ones who are enjoying all the loot earned by their corrupt "BREAD WINNERS".
ReplyDeleteWhen are built they should last longer and maintained frequently. But when contractors have to pay hafts at every angle they turn what will they use for quality material? "Hot shit Mix with piss".
