PANJIM: The fate of two NCP ministers from Goa, who tendered their resignations to party chief Sharad Pawar, hangs in balance as the party is yet to take a call on the matter. NCP's Goa unit chief Surendra Sirsat said that Pawar is yet to respond to the resignations of Revenue Minister Jose Philip D'Souza and Tourism Minister Nilkant Halarnkar, who quit from the Cabinet on Monday alleging lack of development in the state. They put down their papers before Pawar but not the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that he is yet to receive the resignation from the ministers. "It is their internal party matter. I will react only when I receive their resignations," he said.
Both the ministers had claimed in their resignation that they are quitting the Cabinet because they were not satisfied with the development in the state. NCP is in alliance with Congress in Goa.
The resignation came days before the state Legislative Assembly's meet tomorrow to present the annual Budget. Sirsat said Pawar was impressed with the stand taken by the ministers, who have proved their loyalty to the party.
Apparently, the duo was under immense pressure to quit as Pawar had asked both the ministers to step down from the Cabinet after they were found hobnobbing with Congress leaders in the state.
NCP had decided to induct third NCP legislator Fransisco Micky Pacheco in the Cabinet after dropping them but Congress had resisted the move. Goa Legislative Assembly has 20 Congress, 14 BJP, 2 Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), 3 NCP and one independent legislator. – PTI
