PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of police-drug mafia nexus till March 17 after the counsel appearing for the Government of India sought time to study the case. The Division Bench comprising of Justices A P Lawande and F M Reis was hearing a petition filed by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa unit seeking a CBI probe into the police-politician-drug mafia nexus case in the State.
In the petition, NSUI chief Sunil Kawathankar demanded that the case be handed over to the central agency as the credibility of the police officers probing it was doubtful.
When the matter came up for hearing, Advocate M Amonkar told the Court that he was just briefed on the case and that he needed time to file reply to the petition.
The Court on February 22 had directed the Government of India to be a party in the case.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Shrivastava had addressed two letters -- one on January 21 and the other on Jan 31, to the Union Home Ministry entrusting CBI to take over the investigations.
However, the notification according Centre’s consent to transfer the cases to CBI was received only on February 16, 2011. NSUI had also requested to handover Dudu case to the CBI, which has not been considered by the State till date. It also requested the Court to monitor the case.
Why do cases which have such impact and significance in society involving politicians get adjourned all the time? I understand other cases of the common men which get adjourned , dragged all the time to enable the system make money for their counterparts( the lawyers do get their money for every case that gets adjourned due to no fault of theirs from their clients in major cases). Cases like this should be dealt on a war footing and verdicts given. Its obvious that the judiciary is delaying the case in the interest of those in power.
ReplyDeleteWell done NSUI keep at it. This Police-Politician-Drug Mafia nexus is a bad influence on students especially the youth of Goa. While these three Demons make hay while the sun shines, it our youth who are at the receiving end. Corruption breeds from this nexus and an immediate end should be put to it. Judges beware your children could be sucked and made victims of this nexus do not hestitate to give these guys life sentences which they rightfully deserve if found guilty or if there is a hint of it.Time waits for no man and is irreversible.
ReplyDeleteThis is the sort of justice being handed out in the worlds greatest democracy. Those seeking justice have to spend a decade or more of their lives chasing courts & laywers. The judiciary is also assisting the system as come what may, they get paid.
