WILL NOT GO AHEAD WITH FOUR LANING IF CENTRE SAYS NO: CHURCHILL

PANJIM: The PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao, on Thursday, said that the state will not go ahead with the four-laning of the national highway 17, if the Centre doesn’t accept the demands placed before it by the state.  Mr Alemao said, “We are waiting for the Centre to reply to our demands. If the Centre doesn’t accept our demands, we will not go ahead with the project.”
“We cannot fool the people of the state, hence we are waiting and watching,” he added.
The state government had placed a set of demands before the Centre, which includes reducing the width of the road from 60 metres to 45 metres and 35 metres at certain stretches, where the areas are thickly populated, besides toll exemption for Goan light motor vehicles among the others.
Meanwhile, the PWD will be placing the new alignment for national highway 17 before the House Committee, next week.
Highly placed source in the department, seeking anonymity, informed that the House Committee meeting is expected to be convened by next week, as the March 31 deadline given by the Centre to hand over the land is drawing near.
Stating that the work on the new alignment has been completed after conducting a re-survey of the entire 110 km route, the source said that in the earlier alignment, around 800 structures were getting affected, which has now been brought down drastically.
He, however, could not give the exact number of structures getting affected due to the new alignment.
He informed that the state government is closely following with the Centre over the demands placed by the state, especially with the Union Minister for Surface Transport, Mr C P Joshi and said the Centre has given its nod in principle, however, the state wants the official letter from the Centre.
The official further said that 75 per cent of the land is in possession of the state while around 25 per cent needs to be acquired for the new alignment.  He further said that once the House Committee approves the new alignment, the land acquisition process will begin.

Who is this Fat pig of Varca fooling? Goans are aware the central government will be in favour of the construction of four lanes. The ministers are share holders to many of the companies that have been awarded the contracts. The only answer is mass demonstration by all able bodied Goans.

  2. Is this transport minister C Joshi Goan and what does he understand about Goa? This national highway will not benefit Goans. It is for the benefit of non-Goans coming in and out of Goa.
Only Goan citizens must be allowed to make decisions for Goa.

Politicians are hand in glove with constructions contractors, be it housing or highways. Goa has the poorest infrastructure specially garbage and sewer overflowing beyond control. As long as the Politicians get their Hafta and Goans keep quiet Goa’s destruction will go on forever.

  4. How I wish we could pull out of India......they are building big 'gateways', to reestablish the rest of India, in Goa. Our quaint villages are going to be destroyed. Our peace will be destroyed....already it is destroyed with even our temples and churches being robbed everyday. Yes, the CHOR is going to be our 'savior'. He is an agent of Delhi. They allow him to LOOT to fill his chest so that they can get their way. This is our tragic story now. The youth of tomorrow are going to ask us, “Why did we give Goa away?”…………..

  5. Promises when made, should be honoured by the person making it. Thats what you call a gentlemen . Making hefty promises and not fulfilling them is making a mockery and a fool of the people as has been the case. Its unfortunate that many a promise has been made by our polticos but fufillment has been elusive.
People are being fooled and brain washed all the time. Lets not get carried away by promises made in vacuum.
We have a choice , either make it or break it......let your voice speak now!

  7. Listen..this highway... Chorchill's clan will benefit every way conceivable, Chorchill will get his commission, Joking will sell/rent his earth moving/construction equipment, chorchills son will race his bmw, Jokings son will use the highway as a runway and "off course" the so called social worker valanka will act as the hafta collector, probably sitting in the toll booth!!!! (option for quickies)
The only losers are the goans who will loose their land, houses and the common goans after being over trampled by the mass influx of ghanttis as does the konkan railways

  9. The GOANS need water ,electricity, parking in the cities and garbage collection on day to day basis. The government have to solve these problems first and then go for 4-lanes road. The government cannot maintain the national roads, then how they will cope with highways.I f the government take the people's houses or land for highways the people should take the law in their own hand. This chor congress government is only looting and plunderings the innocent Goans.

By the way you are doing a very good job through your letters thus enlightening Goans. Guess we've got a long battle ahead but we have to face it for the sake of our children and for the sake of our identity. Remember Matanhy is struggling almost single-handedly for the past 30 years - ONLY if people had listened to him and elected him instead of smugglers, matka bookies, jokers(sorry tailors) motorcycle pilots, kumpars and all sorts of eneducated uncivilised garbage.

Anyway let us fight and WE SHALL WIN.

You are right my friend it's a long battle ahead and it's not going to be easy, more so because the rogues have all the money and muscle power as well to target people who are fighting against them, I am talking from experience and know how far they can go, but if and only if we are united we can win, we a village of only around three hundred have won against miners and mega builders, unity is the key word.
