GSCE CHAIRPERSON EZILDA SAPECO TO GO FOR DETAILED REPORT ON CUSTODIAL DEATH AT BICHOLIM POLICE STATION

PANJIM: Describing the alleged custodial death of a 50-year-old woman as unfortunate, Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) Chairperson Ezilda Sapeco on Friday said that she would be seeking a detailed report on the incident from the Bicholim police station.
Rajani alias Kalyani alias Babita was arrested on March 4 for allegedly murdering her 54-year-old paramour Babi Mote as she suspected him of getting closer to a younger woman.
Two days after her arrest, she was referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital after she complained of breathing problem. She, however, died on March 7 while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The medical report has ruled out foul play but the accused woman’s family has refused to buy this contention and claimed that she was a victim of police brutality.
“The matter is very serious considering the allegations that Rajani died in police custody. We have asked Bicholim police for a detailed case report and medical history of the woman,” Sapeco said.
Mote who was working as caretaker of a house in Bicholim was murdered with a koita (sickle) in the house. Rajani had confessed to killing her paramour when interrogated by a team of Bicholim police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bicholim Boussuet Silva, when contacted, said that those people alleging police brutalities are being vindictive.
The unabated rise of police atrocities against arrested persons is becoming a matter of concern with three such incidents reported in a period of two months. This includes custodial deaths of Cipriano Fernandes and now Rajani and yet another case of a 29-year-old woman who has lived to tell the gory tale of brutality by the men-in-khaki.  The commission is inquiring into this case as well.

  1. Ezilda? Eyewash. She can be silenced by meeting her wishes or else there are so many cases she made noise and escaped in thin air. She works according to her fancies.
