While the nation is grappling with a string of scams including the 2G, CWG and Adarsh, Goa is not lagging behind with details of the alleged SEZ land scam unraveling. The role of former Chief Minster Pratapsingh Rane and others in this multi crore scam needs to be thoroughly probed. So also the person who was operating as the defacto Chief Minister during Rane’s last few years in office must also come under the scanner.
Politicians are known never to do anything for free. On 21st December 2006 the then Chief Minister Mr. Pratapsing Rane wrote to the then Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath that he would be grateful if the applications of seven SEZ’s to be set up in Goa are considered favorably.
An investigation by the CBI (Congress Bureau of investigation) into the alleged SEZ land scam may not reveal much unless it is monitored by the High Court. Only a judicial probe headed by a High Court Judge will meet the ends of justice. But like A. Raja, Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi, Mr. Pratapsingh Rane should quit as Speaker of the Goa assembly so that the probe brings out the truth.
