MARGAO: Rural Development Agency Minister Churchill Alemao has asked Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to make available funds with the RDA department for implementation of schemes for the weaker sections of the society. Alemao made the request before the Chief Minister at the concluding day of the Goa SARAS festival at the SGPDA grounds here on Saturday.
“The state will go to the polls within the next one year. The RDA department requires crores of rupees to support the various schemes meant for the downtrodden. The BPL list has gone up and the government should support the schemes with additional funds”, he told the Chief Minister.
Alemao said the Congress party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is committed towards the upliftment of the poor and the downtrodden.
And, appreciating the performance put up by children at the concluding day, the RDA Minister had an advice or two to the parents to take care of their wards by closely monitoring their activities.

Saying that the SARAS festival posted a turn over of Rs 57 lakh this year as against Rs 31 lakh last year, the Chief Minister said the decision to hold the festival in Margao stands vindicated. Reiterating his government’s commitment to hold the festival taluka-wise coinciding with the golden jubilee of Goa’s Liberation, the Chief Minister hoped that the RDA Minister would take the initiative and hold the festival in every taluka.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco complimented both Chief Minister and the RDA Minister for holding the festival in Margao and appreciated the efforts of the RDA staff and employees towards the success of the festival. (HD)
