NAIK, SARDINHA TELLS DEFENCE MINISTER NAVY’S PROPOSAL TO ACQUIRE ISLANDS NOT GENUINE

MARGAO: Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has said he and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has categorically told Defence Minister, A K Antony that the proposal to acquire the two islands off Vasco is not bonafide and genuine.
Naik told newsmen on the sidelines of the ST convention at Curtorim on Sunday that the MPs have further requested the Union Defence Minister to withdraw the permission given to the Indian Navy to approach the Goa government to acquire the two islands.
“Our past experience with the Indian Navy is very bad. The Indian Navy had acquire and occupied illegally the land at Dabolim and refused to give land when asked by the Goa government and the Airport Authority of India for the airport expansion”, Naik said.
He said the Navy has allegedly fraudulently recorded the land in their name and recalled how the Navy has barred the Christian community from performing religious services at the Anjediva Islands.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that the Navy is building residential quarters at the Dabolim airport, not only for the staff deployed in Goa, but to cater to the requirements of staff from all over the country. “The Union Defence Minister has promised to look into the matter”, he said. (HD)

  1. Where were these two idiots sleeping all this while? Now they have woken up. They have woken up from their sleep in their air conditioned bungalows. Because Niz Goenkar made the noise these two monkeys woke up. The comments on Niz Goenkar really made them get up from their sleep. Now that Francisco Tallo (Sardine) woke up he should get the Navy out of Goa even, not only Bimbvel or Anjedevi
